PERFORMANCE

Despite the fact that nearly all performers and coaches acknowledge that the “mind” is central to performance, its systematic development remains almost entirely neglected in favor of physical, technical, and tactical training. This neglect is problematic in a results-oriented world where performance and the pursuit of accomplishment evoke increasingly higher levels of stress and anxiety. Not surprisingly, stress and anxiety are often major obstacles to performing at our best. Therefore, training the mind is not a luxury; it is an essential component to a complete performance training protocol.

I help students use mindfulness training to hone attentional capacity—which is the keystone mental training skill. Cultivating a greater command of attention allows performers to more consistently execute in spite of challenging inner and outer conditions. Ultimately, it is this capacity to execute in hostile and high stakes environments that separates “good” and “elite” performers.
